Words of Encouragement to A Survivor

There are many things that one can do to support a friend or family member who is a survivor. Some advice that we like to give is using the phrase, “How can I best support you” versus “I’m sorry” or “How can I help.” When asking questions and/or making comments about sexual violence in class or amongst friends, instead of using the terms “rape,” or “date-rape,” use the term “drug-facilitated assault” or “unwanted/non-consensual sexual contact”
